Microsoft gives Windows Phone 7.5 users a peek at revamped UI
Microsoft has demoed the Windows 7.8 start screen in a video embedded below. The update will be the last major upgrade that owners of current Windows 7 phone owners will see. It is modelled in many ways on the Windows Phone 8 start screen, helping to minimize the disappointment for current owners as their handsets will not be compatible with the next-generation of the OS.
Microsoft Windows Phone product evangelist Ben ‘The PC Guy’ Rudolph quickly runs users through the forthcoming upgrade. Among the additions are resizable tiles and other customization options including changing the colors of individual tiles. Microsoft has also put together a new blog highlighting the new apps coming to the Windows Phone 7.8 OS.
Also noted on the new website are some additional special features coming for Nokia Lumia owners who might be feeling a little burnt by the confirmation that they weren’t getting the Windows 8 update. These include camera enhancements as well as new ways to share contacts and track data usage.

That helps the disappointment!
People buying Windows phones today, after all the push buy Nokia and the phone service providers will now find their operating system obsolete in just a few months. Windows 8 apps won't work on Windows 7 phones, so you can expect nada in apps.
But, the good news is that the tiles will now be resizable! That certainly helps relieve the feeling that you just got screwed by Microsoft.
