Samsung hopes to attract potential DSLR buyers with EX2F compact

Samsung just took the wraps off a new high-end compact camera, the EX2F. It has a 12.4-megapixel, backside-illuminated CMOS sensor and an integrated 24mm zoom lens with an f-stop of 1.4, letting Samsung lay claim to the lowest in the industry.
The camera, which supercedes the company's EX1/TL500 model, also touts the ability to shoot 1080p, 30fps HD video shooting and simultaneous still photos shooting. There is also a 3-inch AMOLED display that swivels out.

Users never need to remove their SDHC or SDXC cards, as there is Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi Direct built-in for automatic uploading to online services such as Facebook or Picasa or local computers. Those with Android phones can download Samsung's Mobile Link app to use their phones as a remote viewfinder and controller.

Despite a metal alloy chassis, the camera the camera weighs 61.7 grams less than the EX1 without a battery in either. It is meant to offer an alternative to bulkier DSLRs with features RAW image shooting and full manual mode. Samsung's dual-image stabilization is also present.

The camera is said to arrive in August and cost $549.
