Parallels Desktop, Parallels Mobile update for Retina tech

updated 03:06 pm EDT, Wed July 11, 2012

Should allow full resolutions in remote clients

Virtualization specialist Parallels has released two new software updates, covering Desktop 7 for the Mac, and Parallels Mobile for iOS. Both patches add support for Retina displays; the MacBook Pro in the case of the Mac, and the third-generation iPad with iOS. Parallels comments that the upgrades should help with viewing higher-resolution Windows software.

Desktop 7 costs $80 new, or $50 as an upgrade from Desktop 5 or 6. Users must at least have an Intel Mac with a Core 2 Duo processor, 2GB of RAM, and 500MB of boot space, plus another 15GB for each virtual machine. Parallels Mobile currently costs $5, and runs on any device using iOS 4.0 or later. The app is only a client though, and so requires a computer with Desktop 6 for access to Windows apps, and Desktop 7 for using Mac programs.
