Wi-Fi hotspot rental service reaches 38 countries
Tep Wireless is expanding its service for European travel. The company's pocket Wi-Fi hotspot and local smartphone service previously was aimed towards use in a single country, but the hotspot options have been altered to allow for roaming throughout the continent without extra charges.
Rental charges of between $5 and $11 per day allows a user to go online in the 38 European countries included in the expansion, although an initial 1GB cap limits usage through the entire rental duration. Adding another 1.4GB to the allowance costs $55, or $95 for 4GB, which may effectively limit the service to light users or as an emergency Internet connection. Unlimited Internet plans are also available in Italy, Germany, Spain and the UK.
Although Tep rents smartphones, it does not have a roaming service that works in the same way. This could be attributed to the variance between countries in terms of roaming charges, which the EU is working to regulate and lower. Tep has been contacted about the possibility of such a service in the future. [via Engadget]
