Shape consistent with other recent leaks
Images of a what may be second engineering sample of the next-generation iPhone 5 has emerged online, reports note. Unlike the first example, the new one has black panels installed. The unit is otherwise consistent though, showing a thinner, longer design than the iPhone 4S, and a frequently-spotted smaller dock connector.
Apple is expected to launch a new iPhone in the fall, around the same time as iOS 6. By now the company would need to have a finalized design so it can prepare for manufacturing. It could also be distributing non-functional samples to accessory makers, who have to tailor cases, docks, and other gear to the new product's dimensions. This year could demand extra effort as well, since Apple appears to be abandoning the 30-pin dock connector it has used for over a decade.
