ASUS explains lack of rear camera on Nexus 7

ASUS didn't include rear camera on Nexus 7 due to price concerns

ASUS, maker of the Nexus 7 tablet that recently received the Android 4.1 update, has now explained why it didn't include a rear-facing camera on the device. Basically, it boils down to price, and that a high-quality camera would be important for the device. This would have pushed the price too high for a feature that isn't used by many users.

The tablet does have a front-facing camera for video chats, however. There is no built-in camera app, however, with the idea being that chat programs such as Skype and other similar ones will take advantage of it. Exactly how much a rear camera would add to the price tag of the tablet wasn't revealed, however.

The Nexus 7 starts at $200 for a 16GB, Wi-Fi model and goes up to $250 for the 32GB variant. [via SlashGear]
