updated 05:15 pm EDT, Tue July 24, 2012

Regional growth relatively even

As a part of its Q3 results announcement, Apple has posted a detailed breakdown (PDF) of its performance. In the Americas, for instance, revenue rose 26 percent year-over-year to hit $12.806 billion. Unlike some past quarters in fact regional growth was relatively evenly distributed, up 16 percent in Europe (to $8.237 billion), 33 percent in Japan ($2.009 billion), and 25 percent in the Asia-Pacific region ($7.887 billion). Worldwide retail revenues grew 17 percent to $4.084 billion.

Revenue from desktop Macs dropped 19 percent to $1.287 billion. While MacBook sales rose 3 percent to $3.646 billion, it wasn't enough to compensate, leading to a 3 percent dip in overall Mac revenue. iPods meanwhile continued their apparent terminal decline, sliding 20 percent to $1.060 billion.

iPhone revenue increased 22 percent to $16.245 billion, whereas the iPad jumped 52 percent to $9.171 billion, riding on sales of over 17 million units; during Q3 2011, the company sold just 9.246 million tablets.

Apple's miscellaneous "music related products and services" segment, which includes the iTunes Store, saw its revenues grow 31 percent to $2.06 billion. The peripheral and software/service categories rose 28 percent each, to $663 million and $891 million, respectively.
