Covent Garden office first engineering office outside of US
Facebook is opening its first non-US engineering office in London. An announcement for the opening by London team leader Philip Su calls the UK capital city a "perfect fit for Facebook engineering", noting it as a global hub with a vibrant local startup community. The London office joins other Facebook engineering offices in New York, Seattle, and the Menlo Park headquarters in California.
The careers page for the new Covent Garden offices lists 22 positions, five of which are for software engineering. An equal number of recruiters matches Su's statement that the London team will "start small, focusing on building a core of great engineers," with the final goal of working on mobile products and the Facebook platform itself.
Earlier this week, Amazon announced it would open a major London hub. The global digital media development centre would work on creating digital services for TVs, games consoles, smartphones, and computers, something the company already has experience with via Pushbutton and LoveFilm.
