HTC elaborates on decision not to update Desire HD

updated 04:34 pm EDT, Fri July 27, 2012

HTC won't bring Android 4.0 update to the Desire HD because of small partition, more

A few days ago, HTC revealed it will not update its Desire HD smartphone from Android 2.3 to Android 4.0 because the user experience will suffer. It seems there is a little more to it than that, including a number of technical issues. First, HTC has evaluated Android 4.0 on the phone and found the performance to be below-par, which mirrors the earlier statements.

Also, Android Central revealed that the partition of the phone dedicated to the OS isn't large enough to hold Android 4.0.

HTC would have to repartition user devices and overwrite their user data. It adds that some technically advanced Desire HD owners might be fine with this process, the vast majority would not. Reducing the size of the software to fit into the current partition would mean compromising the experience and getting rid of some features and functions that are currently being used.

It appears the only way for users to get Android 4.0 onto their Desire HDs is through unofficial means.
