ZTE Flash to launch on Sprint in October

updated 10:11 pm EDT, Sat July 28, 2012

Possible flagship phone from Chinese manufacturer

Chinese handset manufacturer ZTE may be launching a flagship-level handset on Sprint later this fall. The ZTE Flash has shown up in what appears to be an internal document acquired by TalkAndroid. The document shows off a good deal of specs for the device, which represents something of a departure for ZTE, as the company's phones are usually more underpowered affairs.

The Flash will reportedly feature a 1.5GHz dual-core processor and 1GB RAM. It will also have 8GB of internal memory and NFC support, as well as Bluetooth 4.0 and a MicroSDXC slot. It will run Android 4.0, though that may be updated before release to version 4.1. The Flash will also feature two cameras, a rear 12.4MP camera with auto-focus and flash, and a 1MP front-facing camera.

The document tips that the phone will be available on Sprint's network on October 14 of this year. ZTE has, through its reliance on lower-market handsets, climbed into the fifth place spot among smartphone manufacturers. The Flash, though, seems indicative of a move by the company to try to capture the mid-level segment, which it believes its competitors are approaching in the wrong manner.
