600 percent jump in downloads since Nexus 7

Popular app Instapaper has seen an increase in downloads since the release of Google's Nexus 7 tablet two weeks ago. The new tablet from Google and Asus has become the most popular device for the program, according to Instapaper's internal numbers.

Since the release of the the low-cost, high power tablet, downloads of the Instapaper app on Google's Play Store have jumped 600 percent. The app's developers attribute some -- but not all -- of this increase to the $25 credit Google gives away with the tablet. Downloads paid for with the credit are listed under the codename "grouper," as seen in the chart below. Grouper downloads account for 15.6 percent of all installs, making the Nexus 7 the most popular individual device by a healthy margin.

The Instapaper app's developers note the Nexus 7's generally positive reviews as a main driver behind the device's popularity and the jump in downloads for their app. The Nexus 7 is the first Android-powered tablet to capture popular attention since the Kindle Fire, and Google is hoping that the device's success will attract developers to its Play Store hoping to repeat Instapaper's success.
