Development team suggests release candidate one month away

A port of Android 4.0 for the Raspberry Pi is getting closer to release. An update from the Raspberry Pi blog shows a video demonstrating the most recent Ice Cream Sandwich build running on the credit card-sized computer, as development nears completion. The stumbling block delaying the release centers around AudioFlinger, the audio software used by Android, which is still being worked on by the developer.

Developers are also encountering difficulty implementing video functionality using a different kernel and VideoCore binary image from the publicly available version on online project host GitHub. The team is "investigating the feasibility of converging the two code lines" into one single common platform for distribution, which in the comments, will see a release candidate being at least a month away.

Aftermarket firmware CyanogenMod has already been ported to the Raspberry Pi, although the release suffers from issues on its most recent version. The firmware has also been hacked into a Nexus Q to run Android XBMC, which has yet to overcome similar issues.
