Aereo updates charging for New York service, adds tiers

Adds Day Pass tier with three-hour DVR recording
Online television rebroadcaster Aereo has updated its pricing from its original $12 per month flat rate. The new charges for the service includes a free trial, granting residents of New York one hour of viewing a day, and a number of different tiers. The changes come one month after a judge ruled in favor of Aereo, after ABC, CBS, and NBC all sued after accusing the service of illegally copying and retransmitting their programming.
Monthly charges are now split into two tiers, one offering 20 hours of DVR storage space for $8 per month, and the other 40 hours for $12. An annual version of the $12 plan is charged at $80 per year and (which includes three months at no charge, says the company), while the monthly terms offer only the second month as free. A Day Pass for $1 is also available, giving a 24-hour period of streaming and 3 hours of DVR storage space, viewable up to 10 days after paying.
The billionaire backer of Aereo, Barry Diller, said the company would expand its service beyond New York, to include most major US markets, calling the rebroadcasting service a "right" for consumers. He also claimed marketing efforts for Aereo will also increase over the next year and a half.
