Galaxy Note II may stay on Android 4.0 for release

Unconfirmed information regarding Android 4.1 upgrades for Samsung's Galaxy line has surfaced, fueling speculation of possible release dates. Sources of Sam Mobile claim that initial firmware for the Galaxy S III had passed testing, enabling developers to focus on the public release. The handset is expected to receive the update by the end of the third quarter this year, pending final approval and any other unexpected delays.

Jelly Bean is also said to be heading to the Galaxy S II and the Galaxy Note, with both devices still undergoing tests. If Samsung decides not to update either of them, owners are expected to receive a "value pack" update, in a move similar to the Galaxy S earlier this year when it could not run Ice Cream Sandwich. The value pack is seen as a backup plan, as there is said to be no reason not to update the handsets. If released, the updates are claimed to be slated for the fourth quarter.

The Galaxy Note II is also mentioned in the rumors, but the source is not certain if the device will be running Ice Cream Sandwich or Jelly Bean. The current test software is said to be Android 4.0, which could bring a public release within months. No information for tablet updates was provided.
