Suggests Apple quick to move forward with new standard

Photos of what is said to be the new nano-SIM tray for the next-generation iPhone have started leaking out of China, according to reports. Nano-SIM is a relatively recent development, since Apple's design for the format is only said to have been approved by ETSI in June. Some of the photos also show smaller Home buttons, something already hinted at in previous leaks.

Some European wireless carriers are thought to be stockpiling nano-SIM cards with a new iPhone in mind. Apple may be eager to get the format deployed as soon as possible, not only to encourage its adoption but to exploit its advantages. Nano-SIM cards are even smaller than the micro-SIM format Apple helped inaugurate with the iPhone 4, and may be allowing Apple to fit even more electronics inside the next-generation iPhone and/or thin out its design.
