M5 Pro uses double-data protection for high data integrity
Plextor has extended its M5S series of SSD storage with an enterprise-grade "Pro" line. . The M5 Pro Series Solid State Drive uses a Marvell Monet controller for sequential read and write speeds of up to 540 and 450 MB/s respectively, and up to 94,000 read and 86,000 write IOPS. Additional use of "True Speed Technology" supposedly prevents performance drops seen in some SSDs after long-term drive usage.
Alongside the high speed performance of the drives, the M5 Pro also offers several technologies to protect data. A 128-bit error correction system in the Marvell controller automatically checks and corrects data being read from the flash memory, while a robust data hold-out algorithm, exclusive to Plextor's firmware, adds a second layer of read protection. The system is claimed to have been tested on 400 units before production, reaching 500 continuous hours without a single error. The Marvell controller can also provide 256-bit full-drive encryption to secure stored data.
The drives will be made available in mid-August in 128GB, 256GB and 512GB capacities, however prices have yet to be announced. [via Engadget]
