Firewire 800 or USB 3.0 provide bus power, no AC adapter required

Accessory manufacturer Other World Computing announced the "triple interface" model of its OWC Mercury On-The-Go Pro bus-powered portable storage solution. The new version replaces the USB 2.0 port with a USB 3.0 interface, backwards compatible to the older version of the port.

Complemented by a pair of FireWire 800 ports, USB 3.0 allows the drive to deliver speeds up to 285MB per second. A USB-only version of the drive is available. Both models offer 5400 or 7200RPM hard drives in capacities up to 1TB, or a OWC Mercury Electra SSD up to 480GB. The drive is designed to be bus-powered, but an optional AC adapter is available.

A USB 3.0, 5400RPM, 320GB version of the drive is available for $90. The triple-interface 1TB 5400RPM drive retails for $175. The 60GB SSD USB 3.0 version costs $118, up to $568 for the 480GB triple-interface SSD model.
