Alleged Durango development kit sells for $20K on eBay

Auction by leak provider sells one of two Microsoft dev-kits

A computer claimed to be a development kit for the Microsoft Xbox Durango has sold on eBay for $20,100. The auction was set to run for another six days, but sold early after 43 bids had been placed for the machine. The original eBay listing consisted of one image of the box and a single line of text, saying it came with power cables and a wired controller.

The image supplied with the auction is for what is known as an Alpha Tower, namely a combination of hardware and software that Microsoft is said to have put together as an analog to the final product to aid in game development. The final console is almost certainly going to take a different form from the PC case it currently resides in, and may not even use the included hardware.

The seller, listed on eBay as SuperDaE, has been the source of a number of rumors relating to the future Microsoft console, the latest of which revolved around the Kinect 2 having a greater depth of field and able to see more detail on photographed subjects. Commenting on the auction, SuperDaE said "All proceeds go to charity. And by charity, I mean my new car." A message from the seller's Twitter feed denied that this would stop them from being a source of Durango news, claiming to own two of the boxes and using one as a leg rest. [via The Tech Game]
