New Coolpix to run Android on 3.5-inch OLED

Nikon's forthcoming Android-powered camera has apparently shown up in pictures. Nikon Rumors has acquired the first images of the upcoming camera, and they appear to show that there will be two different versions of the camera when it is released. The site also provides some details on a possible release date for what will likely be the first Android-powered compact camera.

On display in the pictures are what appear to be two distinct Coolpix models. One sports a 12x wide optical zoom, while the other appears to have only a 3x optical zoom. The two models also appear to have differing aperture sizes and focal lengths.

The images also show off the 3.5-inch OLED display, which has been an expected feature of the camera since its existence was first rumored. The new camera looks to be running Android 2.3. There has been no word from Nikon as to a potential release date for the camera, but some expect that the company will be making an announcement on or around August 22 of this year.
