Toshiba reveals 2.5-inch 1.8TB server SSD

Drive manufacturer Toshiba has launched three new series of 2.5-inch SSDs. The PX02AM series is intended for the consumer market. Performance and capacity are primary in the PX02SM line, with one drive reaching 1.6TB. Entry level servers are boosted with the PX03AN series using a new fabrication technique.
The PX02AM series comes in 100GB, 200GB, and 400GB and is intended for SATA3-equipped computers. The PX03AN series ships in capacities of 55GB, 120GB, 240GB, and 480GB. PX03AN series drives are also SATA3 and are based on the new 19nm multi-level cell NAND chips.
The peak of the line is represented by the PX02SM series. This line boasts sequential 64kb read speeds of 900MB/second with write speeds topping 400MB/second. The 1.6TB drive sits in a chassis only 0.6 inches thick.
Toshiba's PX02SM and PX02AM drives use 24nm enterprise-grade MLC NAND chips. Toshiba has placed a five-year warranty on its PX02SM drives, while the PX02AM and the PX03AN units receive a three-year warranty. The PX02SM, PX02AM and PX03AN series SSDs will ship in the fourth quarter.
