Vivo Tabs shown off at IFA with major specs officially confirmed

At the currently ongoing IFA show, ASUS took the wraps off a pair of tablets running on Windows 8. Called the Vivo Tab and Vivo Tab RT, they both dock with hardware keyboards to turn them into netbooks of a sort. Each was seen before, with the former carrying the Tablet 810 name when it showed up undergoing FCC testing while the latter was called Tablet 600.

The Vivo Tab uses an 11.6-inch IPS touchscreen with 720p resolution and support for a Wacom digitizer input and 10-point multitouch input. It is powered by a "next-generation" Intel Atom processor, though the model isn't specified. It is paired with 2GB of RAM, and 64GB of storage space is built-in.

Otherwise confirmed are an NFC sensor, eight-megapixel rear and two-megapixel front camera. It will be 0.33 inches thick and tip the scales at 1.5lbs.

The Vivo Tab RT will be slightly smaller, with a 10.1-inch IPS screen but the same 1,366x768 resolution. The other major difference will include its Tegra 3 processor and 12-core GPU, which should result in longer battery life. There is 2GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. Other known specs are the same. It is just as thick, at 0.33 inches, as the Vivo Tab, but weighs less, at 1.1lbs.

The Transformer-like dock adds the hardware QWERTY keyboard, trackpad, two USB ports, and a second battery.

Pricing and shipping dates for the tablets are yet to be revealed. The latter is likely to be sometime in October at the earliest to coincide with the release of Windows 8.
