Fido starts rollout of 4G LTE coverage in Canada

Carrier hopes to cover 20 million Canadians by end of year
Wireless network carrier Fido is turning on 4G LTE for some of its Canadian customers. Users of the carrier are able to use LTE devices at speeds theoretically up to 150Mbps in Calgary, Montreal, Ottowa, St. John's, Toronto, and Vancouver from today onwards, with no added costs for people using their own LTE-capable smartphones.
At present, the carrier offers only one LTE device, the Sierra Wireless AirCard 7653S hotspot, available on a two-year contract for $50, although the LTE device selection is apparently going to improve with more compatible smartphones later this year. Considering the speeds, the data plans are fairly hefty, going from 100MB for $22 up to 9GB for $92, and these may change in the future.
Fido plans to expand the LTE coverage past the initial six areas, and hopes to cover 20 million Canadians with LTE by the end of 2012. [via Engadget]
