High-resolution TV capable of 3D, not glasses-free

Toshiba has shown off its attempt at an 84-inch 4K TV at IFA 2012. Following after previous attempts by LG and Samsung in recent months, and Sony showing its own off at the same trade show, the unnamed television equals the Quad Full HD 3840x2160 resolution and physical size of other 4K efforts, and certainly dwarfs its previous high-resolution television demonstrations.

It is reported as having a sleeker housing to the Sony version, although this time is powered by Toshiba's own CEVO Engine 4K. It will have Smart TV functionality, with Google Maps compatibility implied by the company. It is also capable of 3D video, although not the glasses-free version seen last year on a 55-inch model.

Both the US and Europe will receive the TV in the first half of 2013, with the price currently unknown, but likely to be revealed by CES. [via The Verge]
