Nearly 1GB per second on Tempo SSD Pro
Sonnet Technologies has announced the release of the Tempo SSD and Tempo SSD Pro PCI Express cards, the latest in the Sonnet Tempo family of SATA host controllers. The Tempo SSD and Tempo SSD Pro cards allow users to purchase up to two SSDs separately and mount them directly on the PCI-E card, requiring no bay or cabling for the drive.
Either SSD PCI-E card uses a 6Gb per second SATA controller with a PCIe 2.0 controller. The Tempo SSD achieves up to 470 MB per second with one drive and 660 MB per second with a pair of drives in a RAID configuration. The Tempo Pro SSD has a higher performance controller and is capable of 900 MB per second from two SSDs configured as a RAID.
The cards are compatible with OS X 10.6.8 or greater, along with Windows 7, Vista, and Server 2008. The Tempo SSD is available now at a retail price of $150, and the Tempo SSD Pro is listed for $300.
