HTC Desire S will not receive Android 4.0 OTA update

updated 02:11 pm EDT, Mon September 3, 2012

Mobile OS update made available through developer site

HTC is not creating an official over-the-air release of Android 4.0 for the Desire S. A update for the handset has been added to the HTC developer website, but according to Technytt.se, this is as far as HTC will go to updating the handset. Customers wanting the update will have to download it from the developer site and follow an install process instead.

The site reports that it received a launch statement for the update from the company, expecting an official OTA update to be made available shortly afterwards. Customer support for HTC Sweden was contacted, who confirmed the phone would not have an OTA update, but advised that it did appear on the development site. Electronista also contacted both HTC UK's customer support and public relations team, and received similar results.

The statement mentions that updates to Ice Cream Sandwich for the HTC Desire S, HTC Rhyme and HTC Incredible S were on the development site, but did not mention any official OTA release. An official company blog post that was last updated on August 2nd still lists the HTC Desire S as confirmed to receive ICS, but it does not mention the Desire S release as of yet.
