Lumia 920 will be priced similar to the Samsung Galaxy SIII in Europe: sources

Nokia's just-introduced Lumia 920 flagship smartphone may go on sale this November, according to sources at European telecommunications operators. At the official unveiling, Nokia didn't release official launch dates or prices, with many criticizing it for this oversight. Nokia is late to the smartphone game and is relying on a relative newcomer for its choice of operating system in the Microsoft-developed Windows Phone 8.

Nokia was at one point the largest mobile phonemaker but lost that title to Samsung after skyrocketing competition from the slew of Android-powered phones and Apple's iPhone. The Lumia 920 will arrive in AT&T stores on November 2, TechRadar reported this week.

Sources at European wireless providers indicated the phone's price will be similar to that of Samsung's latest flagship, the Galaxy SIII, Reuters wrote. That handset costs 580 euros (about $740) contract-free in Europe.

Nokia had to cut prices on its existing Windows Phone-powered phones in order to move them off store shelves. The older phones, including the current Lumia 900 Windows Phone 7.5 flagship cannot be upgraded to the newer version of Windows Phone, 8.
