LG is gearing up to release its 84-inch 4K TV in the US. Already released in South Korea in limited numbers, the US 84LM9600 will be made available to American customers in the near future, a move that mirrors Sony's recent release announcement for its own 84-inch 4K TV, although at a far higher price point.
Using passive FPR glasses, the 3840x2160 resolution screen can display 3D video as well as 4K and 1080p images. LG's own Resolution Upscaler Plus upconverts source material to fit the backlit LCD screen, with extra content also available through Smart TV functions, including Hulu Plus and LG's 3D World, through the included Wi-Fi connection. A built-in 2.2 channel speaker system is also included, as is a four-mode Magic Remote that acts as an air mouse, scroll wheel, and can recognise gestures and voice commands.
LG will start shipping the 4K TV this month at a cost of $20,000. Specialty retailers will also stock it in October, but just like in South Korea, with a limited availability. [via Engadget]
