Augmented reality system uses symbol-clad book, Move controller

The augmented reality book system showed at the Sony E3 keynote in June is gearing up for a holiday release. Wonderbook for the PlayStation 3 will come out as a bundle including everything that the system needs to work on the console and the first title using the technology, the Book of Spells by the author of the Harry Potter series, J.K. Rowling.

The bundle will include a PlayStation Move controller, a PlayStation Eye camera, the game software itself, and a specially created "book." Symbols on the book can be picked up by the Eye, which allows the PlayStation 3 to superimpose content over its position on the display. The Move controller is also detected and superimposed with its own imagery, for example in the Book of Spells it becomes a wand.

The bundle will go on sale for $80 and reach stores on November 13th. [via BGR]
