Security suite includes backup and restore apps

Trend Micro announced today an expansion of its mobile security offerings with the release of Trend Micro Mobile Security Personal Edition for Android. In addition to its security offerings, Trend Micro also announced a number of new apps for Android aimed at improving device backup and managing battery usage.

Mobile Security Personal Edition for Android is meant to combat the growing malware threat on that platform. The software includes a Privacy Scanner that checks downloaded apps against Trend Micro's cloud-based app monitoring system to generate a privacy risk assessment for each app, flagging apps that are deemed to be risky. It also scans for malicious apps and includes parental controls, as well as a safe surfing feature that blocks malicious websites. Also included is a Lost Device Protection system, which allows users to remotely sound an alarm in the event a device is lost or stolen, no matter if the device's SIM card has been swapped out.

Trend Micro's new suite of apps includes Mobile Backup and Restore, which backs up almost all the data on a device securely, allowing for easy restoration should a user's on-device storage fail. Trend Micro's DirectPass and SafeSync apps have also been updated, enabling easy password storage and device syncing.

Trend Micro Mobile Security Personal Edition is available in the Google Play Store at a price of $30 for a one-year license. Trend Micro Longevity is also available in the Play Store in free and premium versions, with the premium version selling for $6 per year or $10 for two years. The Mobile Backup and Restore program will be available later this year starting at $1 per month for 6GB of storage. Other apps from Trend Micro are available on the company's developer page.

Trend Micro also announced a range of software offerings targeting traditional PCs. Trend Micro Titanium Internet Security 2013 is aimed at ensuring safety while using social networking sites. The software identifies potentially malicious links while users browse Facebook, Twitter, Google+, LinkedIn, MySpace, and Pinterest, alerting users and allowing them to share the security warning with friends to prevent malware from affecting them as well. The software includes a Facebook Privacy Scanner for Windows, which has an extra layer of protection for personal information, allowing users to monitor their Facebook page settings and control access to personal and private information. The software is Windows 8 compatible, and it is available on Trend Micro's site for $75 for a one-year license for five PCs.
