Expansion to UK, Europe also expected by Xcom

Xcom Global, the Internet access rental service used by people travelling internationally to any of 195 countries, is making the move to include LTE connections in its plans. A deal between Xcom and Emobile will allow visitors to Japan to rent a Huawei GL01P hotspot and use the prevalent 75Mbps LTE connections in the country, with future plans to expand the option further afield.

The supplied LTE pocket hotspot will only work in the country it is being rented for, denying service when used in another country, but still providing HSPA+ 3G when in an area without LTE coverage. Europe will be the next target for the company, and will reportedly launch in the UK, despite LTE in the country only recently starting up.

Travellers can rent the LTE hotspot from September 20th at a rate of $18 per day, higher than the normal $15 charged by the company. [via Engadget]
