Sony HMZ-T2 Personal 3D Viewer dated and priced in Japan

Revised headset loses weight, gains remote control
Sony has named a date and price for its Personal 3D Viewer in Japan. The HMZ-T2, announced at the end of last month and replacing the HMZ-T1, will reach Japanese retailers by October 13th for 70,000 yen ($900) and will be shown off to members of the public visiting the Tokyo Game Show later this year.
Updates to the previous version include a 20 percent loss of weight, removing the earpieces and replacing them with a choice of in-ear virtual 5.1 surround sound headphones or user-supplied sound, and wireless remote control of various audio and video settings without having to remove the headset.
Although it offers a stereoscopic 3D effect from dual OLED displays, a 24p True Cinema mode, and automatic color temperature adjustment to minimize eye fatigue, the lack of head tracking is still notable. Projects such as the Oculus Rift VR headset on Kickstarter offered motion tracking as part of its virtual reality capabilities and a more wallet-friendly $300 pricepoint, but a low 640x800 resolution for each eye and the experimental nature may make it unattractive to potential buyers compared to the Sony offering.
