Sony NEX-6 up for pre-order, ships November 16

The Sony NEX-6 is now official following several leaks ahead of its launch. The latest NEX mirrorless camera utilizes a new 16.1-megapixel APS-C image sensor and can shoot at up to 10fps. It also includes a built-in XGA OLED electronic viewfinder, built-in flash as well as Wi-Fi connectivity.

One of the technical capabilities of the NEX-6 that Sony is keen to highlight is its Fast Hybrid autofocus. With it, Sony combines phase detection autofocus for tracking fast moving objects as well as contrast-detection for even better precision. It includes a new control dial, function button and touch screen with a touch shutter function option for maintaing better control over shots. A new multi-interface hotshoe allows users to use traditional flashes, cutting down on the need to buy additional accessories.

The three new lenses introduced today include a new 16-50mm pancake power zoom lens that will ship with the NEX-6 in kit form that is also much shorter than previously bundles lenses. It will also be available for purchase separately in January for $350. A new 35mm f/1.8 prime lens for blurred backgrounds and low light performance will arrive in November for $450 while a new 10-18mm f/4 wide-angle zoom lens will also show in November for $850.

The new NEX-6 is available for pre-order now starting from $850 body-only. It is expected to ship by November 16.
