Microsoft offers staff a trio of treats

Following Microsoft’s internal company meeting at the KeyArena in Seattle, it has emerged that the Redmond giant has promised to give its full-time employees some thank-you incentives. The most notable of these is that all 90,000 of its staff (known as ‘Blue Badges’) will each be the recipient of a new Surface tablet running Windows RT for use at work and at home.

Further, Microsoft is also accelerating its refresh cycle for the company’s desktop computers. To help get the organization on board with Windows 8, all employees will be getting new desktops running the somewhat controversial operating system before the typical three refresh cycle is up. Microsoft’s various Windows 8 hardware partners will supply these.

Lastly, to help ensure that its employees continue to act as product evangelists for the company, each employee will also be getting a brand new Windows Phone 8 handset to replace their Windows Phone 7 devices, which the company had also given to them free of charge. Staff will also be able to use these at work and when at home. There is no word on whether staff will be given specific Windows Phone 8 devices, or whether they will be able to pick one from a range devices. [via GeekWire]
