Rumor: Samsung to release Galaxy S 4 by March 2013

updated 12:11 pm EDT, Mon September 17, 2012

Could be out less than a year after Galaxy S III

Samsung may be planning a follow-up to the Galaxy S III, if rumors are to be believed. According to sources of the Korea Times, the company will allegedly reveal the new handset, called the Galaxy S 4, at the Mobile World Congress expo in Barcelona next year, as a response to the recent iPhone 5 announcement by Apple.

With MWC being held in February and the handset expected to go on sale globally in March at the latest, this puts the Galaxy S 4 unveiling at just nine months after that of its predecessor. It is also suggested that the new handset will have a five-inch OLED display, a marginal increase from the 4.8-inch panel found on the S III. LTE is also expected be available on the handset, after the increase in LTE network deployments, as will the quad-core processor found in international versions of the S III.

As for the physical attributes, an official from one of Samsung's local partners is claimed to have said "The S4 will see some external changes but retain its popular rectangular shape with rounded corner concept." Depending on how the handset design is implemented, there is a chance that Apple may draw this handset into more legal proceedings.

So, would owners of the S II even be eligible for an upgrade to this so-called "S 4"? At least with an iPhone, you can be relatively certain that your device will be the ONLY one the company is refining to make for a better software/hardware experience. I guess if you have an S III you can be happy to only get OS upgrades until this new phone is released.

What do you mean "eligible"? Since when does any company offer upgrades to their phones. Certainly not apple.

At least with an iPhone, you can be relatively certain that your device will be the ONLY one the company is refining to make for a better software/hardware experience.

Well, up until the point the company decides to shift focus, and then they let your device just dangle there. You know, like the iPod classic.

And I have no clue what you mean by "refining to make for a better software/hardware experience". OK, on the software side, sure. But Apple isn't refining my iPhone 4S hardware to make it better. They're releasing a new handset for that, which one has to pay 'full' price for (that is, no upgrades).

Oh, and the company has iphones, ipod touches, ipod nanos, and ipads. So the iPhone is NOT the only one the company is refining.

Yeah, like an iPhone 3GS or iPhone 4 owner now?
