Interim CEO Jim Alling returns to COO position
Deutsche Telekom has named the new Chief Executive Officer for T-Mobile USA. John Legere will be taking over the reins from interim CEO Jim Alling, following the departure of previous CEO Philipp Humm in June. Legere will commence work with the company from September 22, when Alling will return to being the COO.
Legere is the former CEO of Global Crossing, which built the first integrated global IP-based network during his tenure. He previously worked as CEO for Asia Global Crossing, was the Senior Vice-President of Dell, presided over Dell's operations in the EMEA and Asia-Pacific regions, and worked at a number of senior positions within AT&T. With his career starting at New England Telephone in 1980, Legere brings 32 years of experience to his new job.
He is also a competitive runner and marathoner, and has raised more than $1.2 million for the Dana Farber Cancer Institute through running eight Boston marathons. Legere is on the board of the institute, as well as the New York Road Runners, NYC Marathon, Achilles International, and Shoe4Africa.
Previous T-Mobile CEO Philipp Humm resigned from the company earlier than his intended September departure, after Deutsche Telekom Chief Executive Rene Obermann discovered his new employer's identity, a competitor in Europe. His move to Europe was in part due to wanting to rejoin his family on the continent.
