BlackBerry services go out for three hours in Europe, Africa, and the Middle East

RIM has already fixed an issue with BlackBerry services on Friday that saw them unavailable for a few hours in Africa, Europe, and the Middle East. The outage was registered by RIM and fixed just about three hours later, followed by an apology to its customers. Reasons for the outage aren't known.

The timing of the outage was fairly significant, as it occurred on the same day as the launch of the iPhone 5, a competitor to BlackBerry smartphones. It also coincides with a wider outage almost one year ago, RIM's biggest.

The company is struggling with ever-increasing competition and isn't due to bring out its latest BlackBerry 10 operating system until next year, with Windows Phone 8 devices expected to arrive later this fall, adding even more competition in the marketplace.
