Successor to dockable mobile set for dual Italy, Taiwan launch
Asus will be revealing the follow-up to its PadFone next month. Invitations sent to media outlets for the PadFone 2 show a partial shot of the smartphone's display, alongside a request to book the 16th of October into calendars, and will apparently be debuted in simultaneous events in Milan, Italy and Taipei, Taiwan.
A set of benchmarks were leaked last week, suggesting that the handset will run Ice Cream Sandwich from the start instead of the latest version of Android, Jelly Bean, and will use a 1.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon processor from Qualcomm. No other details about the phone have been released as of yet.
The original PadFone used a dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor, had a 960x540 resolution AMOLED display and an 8-megapixel camera. A dockable display allowed it to be used as a tablet, and when paired with a keyboard for the dock, turned the entire system into a small notebook. [via Slashgear]
