Data-wiping security flaw not limited to Samsung phones

Researchers find HTC, Sony, other Android phones are also vulnerable
In a follow-up to yesterday's report of a security flaw that can wipe the data of Samsung's smartphones, it's being reported that handsets from other makers are also vulnerable. While the security patch for Samsung phones is already said to be out, the latest report suggests that many other Android-powered devices are susceptible. They include but aren't limited to the HTC One X, Motorola Defy, HTC Desire, and likely Sony Xperia Active and Xperia Arc S.
Those wondering if their Android phone is part of that list can apparently check by visiting this link from their phone's browser. The issue seems to have to do with the phones' standard Android dialers. The USSDs will trigger certain actions, such as displaying IMEI numbers or resetting them to factory settings.
While this issue has been addressed three months ago, the affected phones do not have the latest software installed, as some manufacturers, carriers, or customers may not have applied the required update.
Another, more advanced option, involves installing a third-party installer. The second one doesn't need to be set up as the default, as users will be prompted with the "complete action using" prompt whenever a website tries to issue USSD orders for the dialer.
