Should sync contacts to apps like iOS Contacts

Google has announced that Gmail and Google Calendar are now capable of contact sync via CardDAV. CardDAV is an open format, and should make it easier to sync Google contacts to third-party clients, such as the native Contacts app in iOS. Previously people sometimes had to go through harder workarounds, such as Exchange.

Google is providing detailed instructions for setting up CardDAV with iOS. This involves going into the Mail, Contacts, Calendars menu under Settings, and then selecting Add Account, Other, and finally Add CardDAV. Here people can enter google.com as a server name, and Google account info for the username and password.

Does this mean it will soon be possible to sync my iCloud calendars to Google Calendar?
