Microsoft's store count now stands above 45
Microsoft opened two new retail locations in New York on Friday and locations in New Hampshire and Delaware on Saturday. The software giant's physical retail locations are meant to showcase computers running Windows, Microsoft's own hardware offerings, and the software offerings running on its Windows platform. The new openings give Microsoft more than 45 retail stores, and the company plans to continue expanding its physical locations.
Reportedly, cheering crowds attended the Microsoft store openings at all locations. Microsoft gave away a number of prizes, including a Samsung Series 9 laptop, Xbox 360, and other enticements.
In the future, Microsoft will be opening more permanent stores, including locations in Puerto Rico and Canada some time next year. The company is also working on "pop up stores" that will appear during the holiday season following the launch of Windows 8 in late October.
