Launch could happen in early November
A major Apple investor, quoted by Fortune, is claiming to have heard from "multiple sources" that an invitation to an iPad mini event should reach the press on October 10th. Based on that timing and Apple's past launch strategies, Fortune suggests that it could mean a product unveiling on October 17th, and an actual launch on November 2nd. A launch would almost certainly take place before Black Friday, since Apple might otherwise miss out on holiday sales.
While many reports have indicated that Apple is working on a smaller iPad model, relatively few of its features have been leaked. The new tablet is expected to have a Retina display measuring just under 8 inches, possibly with thin side bezels. It will likely use Apple's new Lightning connector format, but it's still unclear what kind of RAM and processing power the tablet might have, or what its storage capacity might be. If Apple attempts to compete for price with tablets like the Kindle Fire or the Nexus 7, capacity will likely be no more than 32GB; 16GB may be more realistic.
