HP targets business customers with ElitePad 900

Tablet aimed at government, business clients

HP today unveiled the ElitePad 900, a new tablet aimed at enterprise and government clients. The ElitePad features an ultrathin design to compliment its 10.1-inch screen, and HP is offering an array of accessories to accompany the new tablet. The ElitePad features the serviceability, enhanced security, and manageability found in HP's Elite PCs, as well as military-grade durability for drops, vibration, dust, temperature extremes, and high altitude.

The ElitePad weighs 1.5 pounds and measures 0.37 inches thick. Its 10.1-inch, Gorilla Glass-coated display has a 16:10 aspect ratio and outputs at 1280x800. It features a 1080p front-facing video camera and an 8MP rear camera with LED flash.

Inside, the ElitePad will pack 2GB of RAM and up to 64GB of storage, expandable by Micro HCSD card. It will run Windows 8 on an Intel Atom processor, and it will feature 802.11a/b/g/n and Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity, as well as NFC capability with Secure Element.

The ElitePad will also feature a HP hs2350 HSPA+ Mobile Broadband Module, allowing for cellular connections when away from a Wi-Fi network. Such connections, though, will require a service contract with a cellular provider.

The ElitePad also supports a stylus input, and customers will have the option of purchasing an HP Executive Tablet Pen. Customers also have the option of purchasing a docking station, slim bluetooth keyboard, and expansion jacket, all of which are specially tailored for the ElitePad.

The tablet will come preloaded with HP Wireless Hotspot, HP Support Assistant, HP ePrint, Cyberlink YouCam Windows Apps, Cyberlink MediaSuite Windows Apps, HP PageLift, HP Shutdown Agent, Evernote, and Skitch.

The HP ElitePad 900 will be available in the United States in January 2013. As the device's release date approaches, HP will be releasing more information on its pricing and availability.
