Verizon iPhone 5 owners could be using mobile data when on Wi-Fi

Apple has issued a support bulletin for Verizon iPhone 5 regarding plan data usage taking place even when an iPhone 5 is connected over a Wi-Fi network. The bulletin informs customers to update their Verizon carrier settings to 13.1, which will result in the issue being addressed. The new Wi-Fi-related issue is the latest to plague some iOS 6 users since the update went live on September 19.

To get the update, Verizon iPhone 5 customers must navigate to the About screen in Settings and wait for a carrier settings update alert to appear. Once the update downloads and installs, users are advised to power off the device and power it on again. Once rebooted, the iPhone 5 must be powered down for a second time before the installation will be complete. To check the update has installed, users must navigate back to the About screen in order to confirm that “Verizon 13.1” is being displayed.

Other users of iOS 6, including iPhone 4S owners and third-generation iPad owners have also been complaining of Wi-Fi issues, although these pertain to connectivity. For some owners, the Wi-Fi connection function is grayed out, while others who can access the function can’t establish a connection to the Wi-Fi network. Apple is said to be aware of the problems, but has yet to either comment on them or issue a software update.
