Samsung applies for automated 'Life Diary' patent

System would write sentences from logged data
Samsung has filed a patent application for an automatic diary. Entitled "Apparatus and method for generating story according to user information," the system would use data logs to write a long-form sentence of what took place, and store it in what has been called a "Life Diary" on a device.
Logs can be generated from various sensors, such as a smartphone's GPS, recent weather reports for an area, photographs, appointments in a calendar application, or even a music playlist. Analysis of the logs will allow the Life Diary to work out a topic for a specific point in time, and will write at least one sentence based on it. The resulting statements are stored and can be read later.
It is likely that such a system would be useful for people needing to remember previous events occurring, such as in a legal capacity. The amount of data required for the Life Diary to function could potentially be too much, and may raise the ire of privacy advocates if such a product comes to fruition.
Samsung has already created an app called Mini Diary, which offers basic diary functions to its users. It does not have any automatic sentence creation settings at present. [via Engadget]
