Nano SIMs arriving at T-Mobile USA stores over weekend

updated 09:41 pm EDT, Sat October 6, 2012

Smaller SIM in limited quantities initially

T-Mobile USA stores are carrying stocks of the Nano-SIM cards. The new and smaller SIM has reportedly been received by the stores, according to TmoNews, and is being sold to customers wanting to use the iPhone 5 on the carrier. Despite dispatching to stores, it may still take a day or two for the SIMs to enter the stock system, and may initially be available in very limited quantities.

To be able to use a T-Mobile Nano-SIM, customers will need an unlocked iPhone 5, which will cost between $650 and $850 without a contract. It is unclear if the Verizon version of the handset will work with the T-Mobile SIM, it apparently being GSM-unlocked out of the box, as per requirements.

Although T-Mobile cannot sell the iPhone themselves, it is still supporting the smartphone on its network. It has been aggressive in catering towards users of unlocked iPhones, suggesting that heavy data users could save $50 or more when comparing an AT&T plan with a T-Mobile equivalent. A T-Mobile version of the iPhone 5 may yet come out in the future, but that is down to Apple.
