My Book Thunderbolt drives now come in 4TB, 8TB models

WD announced today an expansion of its line of high capacity and high speed external storage drives with the My Book Thunderbolt Duo 8 TB and My Book 4 TB external hard drive models. The new drives are compatible with both Mac and PC setups, and the Thunderbolt Duo 8 TB offers the largest storage available on any My Book drive from WD.

The Thunderbolt Duo 8 TB features Thunderbolt technology, making it interoperable with the high-speed transfer protocol now standard to Apple's notebook line. It will ship with a Thunderbolt cable included for added convenience. Using Thunderbolt ports, users can daisy-chain up to six My Book Thunderbolt Duo drives, giving up to 48TB of storage.

The My Book 4 TB external hard drive has a USB 3.0 connection, allowing for speeds up to three times faster than what is possible on USB 2.0. The 4 TB will be out-of-the-box compatible with Microsoft's forthcoming Windows 8 operating system, as well.

The My Book Thunderbolt Duo 8 TB is now available at select US retailers and online at WD's store for $850. The My Book 4 TB is also available for $250.
