Update brings landscape home screen to Nexus 7

Google is preparing to release an incremental upgrade to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, version 4.1.2. The new version will bring stability improvements as well as a few tweaks to the user interface. Chief among these improvements: owners of Google's Nexus 7 tablet will now have their home screens rotate into landscape mode when the device is turned on its side. Android Police reports that Google has already released the update to the Android Open Source Project, and it is said to be rolling out to Nexus 7 devices already, though Electronista's attempts to verify this have been unsuccessful.

In addition to the new landscape launcher orientation for the Nexus 7, version 4.1.2 brings a change to the notification system. Google previously unveiled interactive notifications with the debut of 4.1, but those interactions required a two-finger gesture deemed by some to be awkward. Now -- as seen in the video below -- users can expand and shrink notifications with only one finger.

The update also fixes a bug in Jelly Bean that caused it to fail to connect to WPA enterprise wireless networks.

Version 4.1.2 is said to be available currently for the Nexus 7, Nexus S (with build number JZ054H), Galaxy Nexus, and Motorola Xoom's tablet. Electronista staff have attempted to locate or download the update for the Nexus 7 and Galaxy Nexus, but we have been unable to download it.
