Bigger ultrabook to gain optical drive
Sony has introduced one new notebook, and intends to offer a touchscreen version of another. The Vaio T14 is a 14-inch version of its existing T13 line and retains the physical style and specifications of its predecessor, while the Vaio T13's optional touchscreen is a $100 upgrade that also adds edge-to-edge glass to the display.
The T14 is a quarter of a pound heavier than the T13 and also slightly thicker. The extra size gives enough room for an optical drive to be included, though the number of ports remain the same. One USB 3.0, one USB 2.0, HDMI, Ethernet, VGA and audio out are all included, despite the extra space available to designers. The customizable specifications, starting from a 1.8GHz Intel Core i3 processor with 4GB of RAM, closely mirror that of the T13 range.
The existing Vaio T13 will continue to be sold from $670 excluding the touchscreen option, which will be available later this month. Although larger, the Vaio T14 will also be coming out later this month at the same price as the T13. [via Engadget]
