Microsoft has started its television-based marketing campaign for Windows 8. Commercials for the new operating system started to air today, and will appear most prominently during the Sunday National Football League games before being used in commercial breaks for other TV shows.

A post on the Window Team Blog confirmed the start of the campaign, name-checking the Eagles of Death Metal as those responsible for the song Only Want You, the soundtrack used in the commercial. The number 8 appears repeatedly in the ad, interspersed by footage of people using the operating system. A touchscreen is seen to be lowered onto a table and used for a multiplayer game of Fruit Ninja, following Xbox Video's Metro UI being used to play an acrobatic video clip.

Windows 8 is still set to launch on the 26th of October, along with the Microsoft Surface Tablet.
