Leaked images show alleged iPad mini display with 4:3 ratio

Aspect ratio may match full-size iPad

Images posted by parts dealer ETrade Supply are claimed to show the display panel and battery for the rumored iPad mini. Although various leaks have generally agreed on a display size around seven inches, the aspect ratio and resolution has been disputed. The latest leak points to a 4:3 layout, which would match the full-size iPads, while the panel itself measures 162mm x 124mm—just shy of eight inches from corner to corner.

The images' authenticity cannot be confirmed, but MacRumors notes that text on the ribbon cable is consistent with the inventory markings on parts for other Apple devices. The leak is also corroborated by display testing photos posted by French site Nowhereelse.fr.

Markings on the battery also resemble the labeling on Apple parts, with a model number A1445. The lithium-polymer battery runs at 3.72 volts with 4490mAh capacity, providing slightly more than a third of the full-size iPad's battery capacity.

Apple is widely expected to unveil a smaller iPad at a media event on Tuesday, October 23.

If these photos by ETrade Supply are accurate, the display in the new 7" Sharp IGZO tablet will not be used in the iPad Mini as the aspect ratio is not 4:3. Furthermore, an analysis of the part number for the leaked screen photo indicates the part is manufactured by LG Display (LGD). This fact does not rule out IGZO as LG could be a second supplier under contract. However, the part number does not appear in LG's catalog. Given the dimensions, I would not be surprised to see either a 1600 x 1200 standard display or an IGZO of similar resolution.
